Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities system developer M innovation has established a Sigfox base station in Pakenham for use in the Officer/Pakenham/Koo Wee Rup region in Melbourne’s outer southeast.
French company Sigfox is one of the world’s leading provider of connectivity for IoT. It has established a global network across more than 45 countries and regions to connect billions of devices to the Internet while consuming as little energy as possible.
Sigfox’s unique approach – device-to-cloud communications – addresses the three greatest barriers to global IoT adoption: cost, energy consumption, and global scalability.
M innovation has installed the Sigfox antenna at its headquarters in Rays Way, which is within the 165-hectare SouthEast Business Park. This master-planned industrial and commercial estate is in the heart of Melbourne’s fast-growing south-eastern corridor.
IoT connectivity is a huge win for businesses operating in the Shire of Cardinia. The third fastest-growing municipality in Victoria, Cardinia’s population is predicted to increase by more than 80 percent to 198,000 by 2041.
IoT Connectivity Use In South East Melbourne
The antenna can service South East Water treatment plant on Koo Wee Rup Road and the new train maintenance depot at Pakenham East. The depot, which will be completed in December this year, will provide maintenance facilities for Melbourne’s new fleet of high-capacity metro trains, a stabling yard for 30 trains and a high-tech driver-training simulator.
IoT connectivity on Melbourne’s south-east fringe is also crucial for small businesses and farming communities in the region.
The Sigfox antenna provides access to network coverage and new opportunities for those looking to benefit from connected asset tracking and management.
Importantly, it provides much-needed coverage for Smart Cities initiatives at the Shire of Cardinia.
M innovation is working with the neighboring City of Casey to roll out Smart Cities solutions such as an asset prediction and service optimisation system (APSone).
The system is designed to forecast the performance of Casey’s asset management and capital works function on its 400,000 assets for the next 50 years. APSone has identified millions of dollars in savings and performance improvements across the municipality.
South East Melbourne Utilises IoT Connectivity for Asset Tracking
IoT connectivity on Melbourne’s outer fringe opens the door for all sorts of solutions across industries. Sigfox is compatible with Bluetooth, GPS 2G/3G/4G and WiFi. Businesses can combine other connectivity solutions with Sigfox to drastically improve their capabilities.
For example, residential construction companies in Melbourne’s fast-growing south-east corridor could tackle tool and material theft with IoT connectivity.
Construction site theft is a major problem across the globe and companies are now turning to the next generation of wireless security systems to protect their construction sites.
Project managers of both large and small sites are installing battery-operated, wireless security systems, powered by Sigfox’s global IoT network, and connected to a secure cloud. These “plug and play” temporary systems can be set up in five minutes, easily reconfigured for maximum flexibility, and even activated and deactivated remotely.
These residential construction companies are saving thousands of dollars in lost materials and productivity.
Benefit from IoT Connectivity with M innovation.
